properly remove the old paint with a wire brush and sandpaper (sandpaper for metal). Apply a primer Rex oxide, or some type of corrosion inhibitor, then paint in the chosen color. Hammerite is good, but there are many other paintings in the metal hardware store.
oak wood seems to be the best thing to use on garden furnitures but hardwood is always the best -.~
