Why does my wood frame smell like beef jerky?

Seriously, a wood frame I bought from Target last year now smells like beef jerky. I bought this frame as part of the Global Bazaar group from Asia. It is brown wood and when I first bought it, it smelled fine. Then, I put it in storage and after about 6 months, I noticed the storage room smelled like beef jerky. It wasn’t until I emptied out the storage that I realized the smell was coming from the frame. The storage room is underground in a temp controlled room and nothing else has the funny smell, only the frame. I have tried using Pledge on it but it did not work. Any ideas why this happened and how I can fix it.

maybe you’re recognizing the smoky, woody smells of beef jerky in your frame. (that’s way better than the usual toxic off-gassing of most new products.) what a strange smell though. it must be made of some sort of kiln-dried, aromatic wood.

you should never let wood become wet or soaked. wiping it with something that is acidic or alkaline will lead to damage, too. the surface of hard woods might even soften, becoming sticky like some restaurant tables that have had this damage. use only neutral cleansers, preferable something made for wood.

if you can enclose this frame in some sort of container, you might be able to absorb the beef jerky smell. you can try adding coffee grounds or beans loose in the container; they will absorb the odor. baking soda is good for this too. good luck!
