Why do some drinkers touch the table with their drink before drinking a toast?
In a bar or a pub, as a part of the toasting procedure, I have noticed that after the touching of glasses, many drinkers will touch or tap the table before drinking. What is the origin of this practice? Many people in Texas do this. Is it a regional thing, or do other in other regions do it also?
It’s done in Europe all the time. Primarily for beer, it helps the sediment settle to the bottom of the glass.
