resin wicker porch swing

As spring and summer come around you’ll want to spend more time outside. If you don’t have one, consider investing in a porch or garden swing to give you a comfortable and beautiful place to sit and enjoy the outdoors. We review a few of the popular styles in this article.

The Classic Cedar Porch Swing – averaging around $200 in price, this swing follows the traditional image of what most people think of when they think of porch swings. Made of cedar it resists rot and has a built in insect repellent. If you get the right design there is contoured seating so you don’t need to purchase additional padded seating. If the swing isn’t pressure treated then you’ll want to apply a sealant about twice a year to protect the wood. Reviews of this type of swing have indicated it’s a classic style with natural beauty that lasts a long time if cared for properly. No need to paint!

Oak, mission style flat bottom swing – if you’re looking for really inexpensive swings they do exist for less than $100 and this one of them. Sporting a flat bottom you may want to add padded cushions (purchased separately) or make your own. It’s built simply in the mission style with open back slats and made entirely of oak. Some of the cheaper versions have short seat depths, so if you’re the type who needs to lean back and have longer seat support this may not be the option for you. Assembly is fairly easy.

Wrought Iron Swings – the idea is foreign to some, but you don’t have to buy a wooden porch swing. They do come in other materials such as metal (even wicker). The wrought iron swing looks very Victorian, its heavier than many wooden styles, and most are powder coated to prevent rusting. If you do notice rusting be sure to contact the manufacturer or store you purchased from as the warranty should cover any fast rusting, they just shouldn’t rust at all. The price runs from $150-$300 depending on the design, size and manufacturer.

Wicker porch swings – Another extravagance for some, this beautiful design will run you about $400-$500. Made of a tight wicker weave, it’s often shaped more for the curves of your body and some say it’s more comfortable than standard wood. They typically have a metal frame and a resin wicker that is weather resistant. Unlike many of the wooden types you will not have to put this swing together, they arrive (or are picked up) fully assembled. This can add to the shipping cost if purchased online, due to the bulk, but for many its worth it.
