gate with door or Retractable? pros / cons? help?
Hi – I’m looking for gates. I either need one with a door to open and close or a Retractable since this is for the steps – can anyone tell me pros / cons not sure what type to get. thanks
I like the retractable ones, but I haven’t tried one yet. The problem I had with the door ones is that once the baby is in bed and I don’t need the gate up anymore I had to take it off the hinges or use a door stopper to keep it from shutting. The retractable ones seem like they wouldn’t be in the way as much when they aren’t being used.
If you do get a door one I wouldn’t recommend the safety first ones. I went through 4 of them, and each one only lasted about a month before the plastic piece that goes on the hinge to make it a door snapped off and then the gate only worked as a pressure mount. Since your going to be using it at the top of the stairs it could be a safety issue (the first one I had broke because the 4 year old I was babysitting tried to climb over it and when the plastic piece broke the gate fell over with her on it).
