candle wick trimming

There is something very welcoming when entering a home or office and being embraced by a wonderful scent. More and more people are realizing that burning a scented candle creates an inviting atmosphere and can help set the mood. But have you ever noticed that some of those wonderful candles that come in the jars have black soot around them? Well here are some basic tips on caring for your jarred candles and how to eliminate that black soot.
First, what causes the black soot to build up in jarred candles? Black soot is caused by improper candle care. By improper candle care I mean not trimming the wicks and by blowing the candles out.
Three simple steps can help you eliminate that black soot, sustain your candles burn time as well as maintain the beauty of your jarred candles.
Be sure to trim your candle wicks to 1/4″ before each burn. The proper way to trim the wick is with an actual wick trimmer. We recommend using an actual wick trimmer for two reasons. You will get an evenly cut wick and eliminate the risk of the burned wick falling into your jarred candle. Wick trimmers are quick, affordable and are far less awkward then using a pair of scissors.
In addition to trimming your wicks stop blowing your candles out. Instead us a wick dipper and smother the flame. Never put the lid on as a means to smothering the candle. Simply dip the wick into the melted wax. This will end any residual smoke. A coated wick will also be easier to light the next time you want to enjoy your candle. You can use any wick dipper, these are simply designed for easy use and very affordable.
Last but not least. Consider switching to a wickless candle. These are pods of scented wax that are simply placed on a warmer plate to melt the wax and produce a scent. Whether it’s for your home or your office these are not only a great idea they make great gifts. Look for the new styles on the market with timers. Not only will you eliminate the concerns of black soot, you have to worry if a candle was left burning.
Candle maintenance can not only keep your candles looking their best, it will help preserve the scent and the burn time. If you want to reuse your jar, clean up will be easier with just basic candle care.
Enjoy your scented candles without the messy soot.
